1.Overview

The SSC JE exam full form is Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineers. The Staff Selection Commission of India holds a nationwide competitive test known as the SSC JE (Staff Selection Commission Junior Engineer) exam. Every year, the Government of India holds an exam to fill positions for junior engineers in a number of government agencies and departments.

There are three phases to the SSC JE exam:

Paper 1, Paper 2, and Document Verification. The first paper is a computer-based test with objective-style questions covering subjects including general engineering (mechanical, electrical, or civil and structural), general awareness, and general intelligence and reasoning. Examining applicants' technical understanding in their particular engineering specialties is Paper 2, a descriptive type exam. Those who meet the requirements for Paper 1 can go to Paper 2.

Those who pass both exams on to the Document Verification phase, where their qualifications for school, eligibility, and other pertinent documents are checked.

2.Eligibility Criteria

For the SSC JE exam, the following requirements must be met:

1. Nationality: In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must be citizens of India, subjects of Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees who arrived in India prior to January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling there permanently. Alternatively, candidates may be people of Indian descent who have immigrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African nations such as Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam planning to settle permanently in India.

2.Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 18 years old to apply for the SSC JE test; the maximum age limit varies based on the post and the candidate's category. However, the maximum age limit is often between 27 and 32 years old, with a government-mandated relaxation for candidates who fall within reserved categories.

3.Educational Qualification: A minimum degree in the relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university or institute is required of candidates. The following are the particular educational requirements needed for each engineering discipline:

  • A degree or diploma in civil engineering is required for the position of junior engineer (civil).
  • A degree or diploma in electrical engineering is required for the position of junior engineer (electrical).
  • Candidates for the Junior Engineer (Mechanical) position must hold a mechanical engineering degree or diploma.
Depending on the particular needs of the hiring company, candidates with credentials from other engineering specialties might also be accepted.

3.Selection Process

Generally, there are three steps in the SSC JE exam selection process:

  • Paper 1: Computer Based Examination (CBE)
  • Paper 2: Descriptive Examination
  • Document Verification
Paper 1 (Computer Based Examination):

  • The SSC JE test begins with Paper 1, which is administered online.
  • There are multiple-choice, objective-style questions in it.
  • Three portions comprise the exam: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil & Structural).
  • Candidates must select the relevant discipline according to their level of study.
  • Typically, the exam lasts two hours.
  • Paper 1 marks are utilized to create a shortlist of applicants for Paper 2.
Paper 2 (Descriptive Examination):

  • The second paper is a descriptive exam designed to assess applicants' technical competence in their respective engineering specialties.
  • It is done offline using pen and paper.
  • Applicants must complete essays or provide detailed responses to questions on their field.
  • The exam usually lasts about two hours.
  • Only applicants who have met the requirements in Paper 1 may undertake Paper 2.

Document Verification:

  • Those who pass both the first and second exams are invited to proceed to the document verification phase.
  • Candidates' educational backgrounds, eligibility requirements, and other pertinent documentation are checked at this point.
  • Candidates must present original documentation, including evidence of identity through a photo, caste certificates (if applicable), and educational records.
  • The candidates' cumulative performance in Papers 1 and 2 is the basis for the final selection and merit list, pending document verification.
